If You Are Involved in an automobile Accident
- Stop at once … you are legally bound to stop.
- Report the accident to the nearest police station. If anyone is injured, secure medical attention.
- Get the name and address of each driver, passenger, and witness.
- Get the name of the insurance company and policy number for each vehicle.
- Don't admit fault. When the police arrive, tell them what happened and let them decide who was at fault.
- Don't allow your car to be towed to a repair shop you are not familiar with. Make sure you understand exactly what you are authorizing in any papers you sign.
- Notify your insurance company in all cases, even if there were no apparent injuries and the damage seemed minor.
