Our Founder, Albert M. McQuiston, II
Al was born and raised in the Berwyn and Malvern areas and graduated from Tredyffrin-Easttown High School. He matriculated at the University of Pennsylvania on a full tuition golf scholarship and graduated with a degree in insurance from the Wharton School, one of the first schools in the nation to offer an insurance major. In 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Rhoda, a graduate of Immaculata College.
His first job was with Equitable Life Insurance. After two-and-a-half years he was hired by John Giantonio, a prominent realtor on the western Main Line. Al handled the insurance transactions of John's realty agency. The new company grew, and the two men formed a partnership that lasted 29 years. Al operated as Giantonio Insurance Agency until John's death in 1987, then changed the name to McQuiston Insurance Agency.
Al loved catching up with people and always had time to chat. His handshake was as good as a contract. He had a knack for speaking and writing honestly and simply which his clients appreciated.
Al passed away in October, 2005, after almost 50 years in the business.
Al was loved by many loyal customers and, to this day, our agency has retained some clients for decades, some of those first written by Al in 1959. His legacy continues as his children, who now run the agency, give straightforward and honest service and value the lasting relationships Al built with both carriers and clients.
